BioArt Media
Banff Artist Residency Animation | Video Static Narratives Teaching: Art | Science |Technology Student Projects
Amanda Almon’s current artistic practice explores and engages the evolution of the traditional field of medical and natural scientific illustration with unique intersections within contemporary media theory, and the integration of conceptual applications of contemporary art, BioArt and information visualization. Reflecting on systems in the natural environment and researching comparative parallels to the human body and structures; Almon examines the contexts of cognitive processing, visual query construction, and information architecture to visualize natural systems and engage the viewer through memory, recognition, and aesthetic representations. Critical theories of “beauty,” “realism,” “monism,” and “semiotics” are integral to the creation of Almon’s body of work.

Almon utilizes an innovative combination of technologies (digital 2D/3D) images, animations, drawings, video and interactive mediums, which facilitate a visual vocabulary to describe form, function, and conceptual processes. Almon examines the fundamental idea of visualizing macro and micro cultures to expose natural systems where art and science converge through the exploration of research, inquiry and aesthetic boundaries.
